Father Gilberto Freire, S.J.
The Provincial of the Jesuits in Ecuador is also President of the Board of Directors for the Working Boys' Center - A Family of Families. He entered the Jesuits in 1974 and in the course of his studies earned a Master's Degree in Theology at teh Institute of Higher Studies in Bello Horizonte, Brazil. He served as Vocations Director, Master of Novices, Rector of Borja Jesuit High School, President of the Federation of Ecuadorian Catholic Educators and as Provincial Advisor. He was appointed Provincial of Ecuador in February 2010.
Father John Halligan, S.J.
Father Halligan, after completing his Jesuit formation studies, was sent to Ecuador to work with the rural indiginous communities. In 1962 and 1963 he worked with Misión Andina, an United Nations sponsored work, in southern Ecuador. In 1964 he was assigned to analyze the situation of street children in Quito and, as a result, founded the Working Boys' Center which he has led for the past 46 years.. During 1995 and 1996, he served as interim Director of Catholic Relief Services in Ecuador. He continues as Co-general Director and legal representative of the Center Family of Families.
Sister M. Miguel Conway, BVM
Sister Miguel is a graduate of Clarke College in Dubuque, lowa and spent her first 11 years as a religious teaching high school mathematics at various schools in the United States. In 1967, she was assigned to work at the Center to develop its program and serve as its Co-Director. She is responsible for the creation of many family development activities at the Center and continues as Co-general Director.
Sister Cindy Sullivan, BVM
Sister Cindy was a dental hygienist graduate and spent four years as a Peace Corps volunteer at the WBC before joining the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a religious, she was called to join our Center Family of Families staff as a Director and has served in that capacity since 1981.
Mr. Gómez is a graduate of the Center's metal mechanics program and has worked in various teaching and administrative capacities at the Center since 1978. He was chosen as a Kellogg International Leadership Fellow from among over 330 candidates in 1989. After his fellowship training in the United States, he served as Kellogg advisor for projects in various parts of the developing world. Presently, he serves as a Center Director and recently completed his Master's degree in Children's Rights at Salesian University.
Mr. Polo is a graduate of Central Técnico in Quito and was selected for special training in Germany by GTZ, the German overseas technical education program. He began teaching at the WBC in 1975 and his responsibilities have grown to oversee administration of the Center's entire education program.
Dr. Giuliana Hidalgo
Dr. Hidalgo is a physican and has a Master's degree in Public Health. She has worked at the Center since 1994 as the Health Coordinator.
Ms. Yepez joined the Center in the 1970s. Her professional background is in the areas of Administration and Projects. She is currently responsible for the Development and Administrative departments.
